Supporting our locals

There’s a lot of creative energy in Aotearoa right now. People are writing and dreaming. I can feel the hope in the room.

Passionate creatives are bringing their ideas to life and collaborating more. A community's ability to share skills and learn from each other’s talents has always been important but right now, it's vital. I’m not saying everything is perfect... far from it. There’s just been a shift. We are more willing to support each other’s work: less competitive side-eye, more amplification and cheerleading.

At POW Studios, we work on projects from anywhere in the world. Post Production is truly a global industry and it’s a privilege to be able to grow and maintain international connections and provide services for all our clients.

However, home is where the heart is. As I sat with my whānau and watched the series premiere of Hari with the Māori Side Steps on Māori TV last Wednesday night then flicked over to Season 3 of Wellington Paranormal on TV2, I felt a bit proud. Go off Wellington! Go off Hutt Valley! Go off Porirua! Go off Wairarapa! Knowing the majority of the teams who brought those two series to life are products of these streets, that’s special.

With today being Wednesday (already, sheesh!), we can again watch Wellington shine on the tele. The second episode of Hari with the Māori Side Steps at 8pm, considers identity and asks if we really know our history; followed by the Paranormal crew up against a shapeshifting creature.

I’ll be locked in with my cuppa, supporting our local talent and trying not to snort tea out my nostrils.
