POW Studios wins NZ Screen Award for sound
We are extremely pleased to have won the SMSG award for Best Contribution to a Soundtrack: Feature at the New Zealand Screen Awards, accepted by John and Matt, on Friday 21 November.
The Rule of Jenny Pen, James Ashcroft’s psych-thriller came away with four awards in total (Sound, Script, Actor and Supporting Actor).
This honour is testament to the POW philosophy of always offering something a bit different to the expected; giving the film an edge, a unique voice. It is also crucial to have an entire team in the sound department always thinking about how to convey this voice in every effect they create. Doors, winds, appliances, human dialogue, footsteps… each has to be painstakingly performed, edited, recorded and/or mixed to give that precise ‘vibe’ which carries through to the audience.
John and Matt acknowledge our excellent sound post team: Lee and Marek (dialogue/ADR editors), Nakhia (sound effects editor), Callum and Carrie (foley team), Yong-Le (re-recording mixer), Angus (sound intern) and Matt (ADR recordist) and Alex (mix tech); as well as on-set crew Sam, Jake and Jessy.
Thanks to NZSA for a wonderful night.
