Sunny Dancer
My guess at how the pitching session went for this film:
Filmmaker: So, I’ve got this film. It’s a comedy. Starring Bella Ramsay, and a slew of top young-adult actors from across Britain. They spend time at a Summer camp larking about, coming of age, getting up to mischief, it’s a real hoot. Neil Patrick Harris is in it, so are James Norton and Jessica Gunning.
Funder: Sounds great! I’ll just ink my rubber stamp and… oh, incidentally, why is it called Sunny Dancer?
Filmmaker: Oh, that’s just rhyming slang for cancer. The kids all have cancer.
Funder: What.
Filmmaker: What.
Impeccably acted and directed in such a way as to make this heaviest of subjects into a joyous and heart-warming film. Ivy (Bella Ramsay) manages to forge her sardonic way to true friendship at “chemo camp” with the motley bunch of ragtags she meets there. Directed by George Jacques.
POW Studios provided all the supporting sound to the film in our studios in NZ, with dialogue and finishing done in London.
